Aubrey Stevens was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1962. Art captured his imagination from a young age and, while completing his civil engineering studies at the University of Pretoria, he managed to nurture his deep interest in the arts, spending much time researching visual arts, with a focus on the Impressionists and their characteristic styles. He completed his postgraduate master’s degree in civil engineering at Stellenbosch University and it was here where he met his future wife in 1986 and chose to settle down. The following years saw the couple living and working in this beautiful region of the winelands, surrounded by the majestic mountains of Stellenbosch and Somerset West. During this time, they travelled extensively while Aubrey pursued his love for painting, assimilating new ideas and images from around the world. Over the years, Aubrey has developed a style unique to him, working with acrylics, which he textures, bringing to life the inspiration absorbed from his surroundings and its people. Since the mid-1990s, Aubrey’s work has been available from selected galleries and commissioned by a wide spectrum of individuals. Aubrey is now retired from full-time engineering and looking forward to engaging much more with his art
