About The Artwork
This painting derived from a composition that I used Photoshop to create. The figures are individual people that I had photographed separately due to the current pandemic. Although my overarching theme for my series was about natural hair, I also felt it was necessary to include those who use protective styling through the use of hair extensions, weaves, and wigs. The title "Inchesss" refers to the addition of hair to one's head for stylistic purposes. The color choices were not pre-planned; in fact they arrived in thought as the painting progressed and developed. Not only did I want to create a piece with multiple figures in an environment, but I also aimed to pay homage to black business owners in their own communities.

I am an Afro-Filipina visual artist interested in representing members of my own community through creative means. While attending Laguna College of Art and Design, I have been trained with both traditional and digital mediums. My artwork explores the humanism of BIPOC, my identity and the relationship between these truths. I intend for my work to raise discussion on social, racial, and cultural inequality through the use and re-appropriation of traditional European techniques.
