When you travel, you look at the world with different eyes. A foreign culture, the people so different from home... the smells, the food. A few years ago Beate Fahrnländer was in India. She is fascinated by the impressions of the foreign culture, especially the unbelievable colourfulness. On her round trip she also visited the Taj Mahal. Suddenly she spotted a young girl in the crowd: her childlike beauty, the colorful, unknown clothing, the dark eyes framed by blue shadows... filled with melancholy. The delicate figure in the contrasting dress embroidered with gold was surrounded by the bright white of the marble floor. The artist repeatedly photographs people and faces when she travels. These photos often lie in her studio for a long time before she takes them out again and tackles a painting.
