ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is a simple painting of a sample of shells I've picked up during my walks on the beach. What sets it apart is its exaggerated size and close-up study of natural design. Each shell follows a pattern of either spirals, mandalas, or radiates in some other common form of natural design. The colors are neutral and harmonious shades of gray, beige, white and brown.

I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work. I categorize my paintings as Contemporary California Realism.
