This piece depicts an androgynous figure in their bedroom, holding a plant called a succulent. Succulents are one type of plant that are able to reproduce on their own when a small piece is re‑planted. Its presence in the home of this figure, as well as the homes of many of my other subjects, is an appropriate recurrence ‑ highlighting an independent form of reproduction and regeneration. Subtle shifts and overlapping perspectives in the drawing serve to disorient space. The cyan plastic brings forward the rear wall, obscuring most of the figure. Here I am interested in pushing both drawing and collage techniques in order to question the subject's orientation to their living space.
