Inheritance Painting

The planet Earth is shown as a large indigenously built drum, precariously tied down by thin fraying ropes within a bleak desert landscape. The drumhead is our planet in distress, shown with a massive hurricane on one coast and raging wildfires on the other. The sun sets behind the last trees which are being bulldozed as the air is fouled by the belching pollution that hides weapons of war along the far horizon. A disconsolate boy is inheriting all this. What are we doing? This is their future. This painting, which was selected on page one of a U.N. Calendar, is a warning about the damage we are leaving behind for the world's future inhabitants. My hope is that this image helps encapsulate the multiple crises that we ourselves are responsible for.
