Linen scroll rod

Art Description

Painting: Gesso, Ink, copper leaf, linen on Canvas, Wood.

I’ve long been fascinated by scrolls and screens: the storytelling aspect and the shapes when hung. They travel easily, can be displayed and stored for either private or public use and their location will always influence how they are viewed.
Making them resonates with a time in my life when I led a very peripatetic existence and I like the possibilities that presents.
The calligraphic gestures are developed from drawings of Marin Alsop conducting in rehearsal; the memory of gestures that occurred but of which there is now no other trace.
The aesthetics also connect to my time living and working in Asia.
It can either be hung loose or framed: I am selling it unframed for practical shipping.
