Liz Ewings is a painter whose work focuses on the inner workings of the ocean through the interpretation and recombination of oceanographic data as a means to explore the imposition of order on chaos. Ewings was born and raised in Seattle. She studied apparel design at Western Washington University, and worked as a menswear designer in Seattle, Portland, and LA. Following her first encounter with humpback whales in Hervey Bay, Australia, she returned to Seattle to study scientific illustration and oceanography at the University of Washington.
