Courtney Davis-Haze is a contemporary artist who approaches painting as a form of meditation, it's an intuitive, immersive process guided by feeling. Her work often features layered textures that reveal themselves over time; from a distance, pieces may feel soft and cohesive, but up close they unfold into complex surfaces rich with detail. She embraces experimentation across styles, creating works that range from quiet and understated to bright and expressive, all grounded in rhythm, balance, and movement. While Courtney draws inspiration from real life, including people, places, fleeting moments, and emotional experiences, her paintings do not depict specific subjects or locations. Instead, they evoke emotional or imaginative landscapes that feel familiar yet undefined, like a memory, a mood, or a place somewhere between the natural world and the inner landscape. Trained as a classical ballerina for over 18 years, she turned to painting after an injury ended her dance career; principles of movement, restraint, and release continue to shape her approach to the canvas. Prior to painting full-time, she worked in brand marketing in New York City, developing a sharp eye for visual impact and composition. She now lives and works in Golden, Colorado from her studio at the base of the foothills.
