Investor vs. Market Painting

The inspirational idea for painting this particular diptych titled “The Spirit of Financial Markets” came into my mind while I was watching my husband at work. He is a professional financial markets’ trader and often refers to the market as to a living creature, which actually may sometimes turn quite aggressive and menacing. This is why I have imagined and then painted on the first ( left ) part of the diptych “the Spirit” of the financial market in the form of a hyena’s evil grin breaking out from within, through the glass of the computer screen, and right in front of the surprised and somewhat scared trader/investor sitting on the other side of the monitor. This trader/investor character is depicted on the second ( right ) part of the diptych as a smart and intelligent ape (orangutan-like) figure, apparently being in some emotional distress and worried for the outcome of his speculative venture. Both “monitor screens” are filled with numerous charts, graphs, quotes and other visual information related to the financial markets. The right painting (the view from within) looks like the exact mirror image of the left (frontal) view of the computer screen with the exception of the images of the hyena’s grin and the ape-like character.
