About the Artist

Aarron Stroud

United Kingdom

Born 1994, Surrey, UK.

Aarron is a multidisciplinary artist working with painting, sculpture, conservation and the poetics of writing. His works materiality focuses on the untruth of substance and often collaborates mediums in order to question traditional art practice, while embracing its process.

He currently works and researches in Falmouth and London.

From the recent group of paintings: Hyacinth (Requiem in 5 Blooms)

Painterly marks, historical trace and alchemical process; the work confronts the idea of the painterly imperative against archival integrity and antiquity.

Enveloped within mythological and classical literature, these paintings are an attempt to consider an existentialist overthrowing of the sublime and a questioning of the self. The painterly mark serves as a spiritual channelling and intermediary between God and Humanity. The work will decay, crumble, rebirth; it is my desire to consider in the paintings the virtues of the human spirit and the crisis of human existence.

Flooded plains of colour, raw acids and crystallising pigment; the surface is a burnt flesh where the underneath light is receding to the forefront. Hyacinth (Requiem in 5 Blooms) contains poetry on existentialism and the sanctity of sin in homage to Keats and the Romanticists. Transient space, Latin, German, scribbles and catalyst for poetic thought.

Requiems and Laments fill my work as a supplication to the unknown.
