ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Isle of the dead is an homage to Arnold Böcklin's well known series of Symbolist paintings entitled 'Isle of the Dead'. It was the last painting completed at my old studio before I had to leave, the building having been sold. I was rushing to finish a fairly average still life of two skulls facing each other when an idea occurred to me. With only 8 days remaining the final shape of this picture emerged in a furious race to completion before I would have to pack up tools and materials. The paint was still wet as I carried it out of the studio...
