"Italian Canal Boats" was inspired by favorite travel images submitted through social media at the beginning of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place measure. This image represents the beauty of the Earth and the future hope of exploring new places during a time when the world has been united in one singular experience. I thought of Van Gogh a lot while working on this piece and looking through his paintings brought me a lot of joy. I hope to be able to visit Venice in the near future! Details: painted on Arches 100% cotton oil paper fits a standard-sized frame matte varnish combination of smooth and impasto textures precise measurements: 12.125x14.875 inches Made in Charleston, SC.

Claire Kendall is a contemporary realist painter and private instructor in Charleston, SC. Trained from the age of thirteen by Susan Burgoyne, BFA, Claire received instruction in art from the College of Charleston and furthers her education in classical-style oil painting through workshops from her favorite living painters. Claire is inspired by the intricate varieties of flowers and flowing fabrics that she used to admire while working in the floral and wedding design industry of Charleston. Ever a lover of the portrait, the old masters are a strong point of reference for Claire. More modern influences include John Singer Sargent, Mia Bergeron, Will St. John, Katie Whipple and Van Gogh.
