About The Artwork

Ivan Bohun is a popular Ukrainian folk hero. Ukrainian military and statesman, the Cossack commander of the time of Khmelnytsky( 17 century). With the beginning of the liberation war of the Ukrainian people in 1648, Bogun became one of the accomplices of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and, according to the "Register of the Zaporizhzhia Army 1649", was among the Cossacks of the Chigirin regiment; in his hundreds, Khmelnytsky's "personnel reserve" was written as simple Cossacks (in particular among them Michael Chris, who was among the hostages of the Poles in the battle at the Yellow Waters). It should be added that the People's Duma refers to him as one of the four leaders of the uprising who arrived at the Bottoms before the start of the war (including Maxim Krivonys, Martin Pushkar and Mikhail Borokhovich). Subsequently, in 1650, for good organizational skills and military talent Bohun was appointed Kalnitsky colonel.
