Art Description

Painting: Oil on Wood.

My painting is of a Japanese-American woman dancing Bon-Odori, the folk dance performed when celebrating Obon, the annual Buddhist festival honoring the spirits of ancestors. I have long participated in the Obon festivals that take place each July in the historic "Little Tokyo" district of downtown Los Angeles, and hoped to capture the spirit of the festivities in my oil painting.
