Indiana is known for its vibrant jazz scene, which perhaps originates from the Gennett Records recording studio in Richmond, Indiana. Gennett flourished in the 1920s producing the earliest recordings of Bix Beiderbecke and the Wolverines, early recordings of jazz greats from Louis Armstrong to Bing Crosby, to the original 1929 recording of Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust.” Hoagy wrote “Stardust” in his hometown Bloomington, Indiana. Cole Porter was born and grew up in Indiana, and several jazz icons such as Wes Montgomery, Slide Hampton, and David Baker are from Indiana. Jazz Scene II with David Baker is an abstract rendering of David Baker directing a jazz band. Jazz Scene I, also on this web site, is the companion painting to Jazz Scene II with David Baker. Jazz Scene II with David Baker original acrylic on canvas is unframed. Open edition canvas prints of Jazz Scene II with David Baker are available for purchase. These canvas prints at 16 inches high by 12 inches wide are same as the original. Photography of the original artwork was performed under direct 6500K studio lighting with Canon EOS equipment. Raw camera images were processed with Canon Digital Photo Professional (DPP) to ensure faithful representation of the original artwork. Image processing was performed using an iMac Retina 4K display, color calibrated with the x-rite i1Display Pro to ensure color accuracy.

I am a classical/jazz pianist, a painter, and a ceramic artist. Very fortunately I have been able to devote my entire life fulltime to these three passions and careers. My painting career really took off during the middle 1990s as I was completing my doctorate in piano performance. My painting interests focus primarily on landscapes/cityscapes and on abstract painting. I typically paint in acrylics or oils, usually on stretched canvas but often on board. I also occasionally work with pastels and watercolors. My ceramics passion intensified about three years ago when I was introduced to the wonderful ceramics faculty at Indiana University. My ceramics work is largely exploratory, consisting of small figurines and unusual pottery pieces.
