About The Artwork

Inspired by the correspondence between Charles Darwin and JD Hooker in the 19th Century. Hooker was the Director of Kew Gardens 1865-1885 and brought back specimens of plants from around the world. He became Charles Darwin's closest friend and correspondent and they exchanged ideas regarding 'where do we come from'. Hooker became director of Kew Gardens where the photographs were taken by Nix to create the artwork. The impact of digital technology has transformed human expression. Nix uses traditional media and new digital media to create her work and explore new creative avenues made possible today.
