ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Portrait of Jurgen Messmer, collector and founder of Messmer Fondation, Germany His passion is art and particularly constructivism. That's why I used stronger lines and elements used in constructivism. Also the famous Messmer pen is hidden in the painting! I'm trying to find more than a physical resemblance, I want to tell the life story. That's why I'm working on many reference photos, catching details that represent the essential of the person and it's surroundings. Note: This portrait was a commission and is sold. If you are interested in having your portrait, or the portrait of the person who is important for you, please contact me. You are encouraged to provide me with additional photos of your subjects and their surroundings so I can have more reference information. If you have a concept or color scheme in mind for your painting, please inform me, as it will help me create the portrait of your dreams!

Marina Startseva was born in Moscow, Russia. She studied fine art at the studio of "Russian Cezan" Iossif Gurvitch and at the Moscow Fine arts and Architecture University. Since 1996 she lives and works in Strasbourg, France. Her artworks were awarded Prestige Prize at "Creators of Century" Art salon in France(20140. In 2008, she was awarded at the French Biennale de Lyon and got the First Prize at "Creators of Century" Art salon in France. Revisiting Art nouveau style in a contemporaneous spin of her figurative paintings, Marina often takes woman as her main subject matter. She captures characters that are reminiscent of semi-mythical figures and skillfully plays with a perspective, creating beautiful and fluid backgrounds. Sumptuous colors of her artworks and their incontestable elegance overwhelm the viewer with their inherent beauty.
