About The Artwork

This painting showcases the beauty and elegance of traditional Iranian tile work, combined with powerful and meaningful symbols from Iranian history and culture. The eight-pointed star tile is a common design element in Iranian glazed tiles and it is often used in combination with other geometric shapes and patterns to create intricate and visually striking compositions. These tiles have fascinated scholars and collectors for centuries for their aesthetic value, particularly in the decoration of facades and minarets in the second half of the eleventh century. The lion and sun symbol, also prominently featured in the painting, is a powerful symbol in Iranian culture and history. It has been used in various forms for centuries, and is often associated with the Persian Empire and its cultural and political influence. The symbol is still used today as a national symbol of Iran. In addition to its cultural and historical significance, the lion and sun symbol also has astrological and astronomical significance, as it is based on the ancient sign of the sun in the house of Leo, which itself is traced back to Babylonian astrology and Near Eastern traditions. The painting also features Aytul Kursi, an important prayer in Islam, written in Islamic calligraphy as border of the symbols. Aytul Kursi is a prayer that is often recited in the morning and evening, and it is believed to be a very powerful prayer. It is recited in Arabic and is meant to seek protection and blessings from God. The prayer is considered one of the most important prayers in Islam, and it is believed to be very powerful in providing spiritual guidance and protection. Overall, this painting brings together traditional Islamic calligraphy, tile work, and symbols in a beautiful and meaningful way. It showcases the rich cultural heritage of Iran.

Instagram: @paintings_by_noor I had the good fortune to travel all across the Middle East and Europe, meeting people from various walks of life. My name is Mahmood Noor Zafar, I was born in 1956 in Peshawar, Pakistan, and I currently live in London. I have been able to convey my multicultural ideas and engage with many arts and genres because of my ability to speak, read, and write German, English, and Urdu at a native level. My mother's enthusiasm for my artistic ability inspired me to begin my creative path and she gave me a lot of her wisdom and intuition in the process. Following that passion throughout my life, with a particular focus on Islamic art and culture, made me realise that there were philosophical and cultural limitations that prevented me from having a more direct relationship with my creative side. To overcome this, it naturally followed that dedicating my full attention to my work satiated my aspiration. Islam and nature are my sources of inspiration. The countless ways to include calligraphy in a drawing genuinely astound me. I've had the good fortune to visit numerous locations and marvel at amazing mosques and natural wonders all over the world.
