A Ziegfeld Follies 1920s dancing girl, Kathleen Ariel's haunting stare captured the attention of Kelly, who brought her delicate looks and questioning expression to life on his signature pine panel canvas, painting in oils. A circular piece, Kelly completed a series of studies of 1920s dancing girls, most of which have since been sold to private collectors in South Africa.
