Kaya Painting

Kaya means body, but like many other words that I have taken from Pali, this word has a different meaning from what we might expect. The body is made up of five elements - earth, water, air, fire and consciousness. When one of them is missing, the body disintegrates, releasing all the other elements. I have little control over it, I cannot stop my heart beating, I cannot change the direction of blood flow, I cannot stop my breathing or the aging process, I cannot stop death. My influence on the body is similar to the influence on the garden where I work, I can cultivate something, but it will wither, I can tear out the holds, but they will grow anyway. It is the same with the body. The body is nothing solid, it is a process, and every moment is different from what it was before then. Usually we are aware of these changes, of this process, but we mistakenly believe that they are taking place in the body. This is not true, they do not take place in the body, they are the body. The body does not function outside of this process and is neither a place nor anything permanent to identify with. It only means one thing - the body is not me, nor does it belong to me. This artwork is painted on canvas stretched on wooden frame. I was using professional oil-colours with premium quality colour pigments that have high resistance to fading. Sides are continuously painted, so there is no need to frame. The picture is accompanied with a certificate of authenticity and ready for wall mounting.
