Kettle Cove Painting

This is an oil painting of Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It is a beautiful location along the Maine Coast. The entire painting was done "Plein air" (painted entirely on location). I was attracted to the incredible Maine light falling on the landscape point as it juts out into the cove. I also wanted to paint the great expanse of the Maine sky. I am greatly influenced by John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and George Bellows. Each of these artists painted directly and dynamically. I wanted to capture the same quality of thick, rich paint and colors. I wanted to capture the drama of the brilliant Maine light.
