About The Artwork

I love painting animals and their stories. This piece features the wolf who appears in many of my nightly dreams to help guide me on symbolic adventures. My process involved building up layers of acrylic, then scratching them away with sandpaper to reveal the underlying colors. I liken this to the way one's dreams have a way of scratching away the layers of your psyche to reveal your deeper self. I've held onto this painting for 10 years now; it's been in my personal collection and not for sale until now *It will be available in-person at The Other Art Fair (by Saatchi Art) in Chicago, April 21-24th * For most of a decade, this wolf was the first thing you see if you were to walk inside the back entrance of my house. Holding that place for so long, the painting has come to hold even more power and strength. This wolf is fiercely loyal and guards the area where he reigns. As expected, I'm ready to grow again and I'm setting some art free, art that has been deeply personal to me for a long time. This particular painting is more like a pet dog, a family member to me than it is a painting. But, he's meant to fly, that's why he has wings! And I'm ready to see him off now. He's ready to protect another palace. ... he's ready to live on into immortality. Much like a living animal, this painting requires meeting face-to-face before going off to his forever home. Come meet the King of Clubs in my booth at The Other Art Fair in Chicago 2022 and see if you're his match.

I've been an artist in Kankakee County Illinois (not far from Chicago), for the past 12 years where I live with my son, husband, and an assortment of animal friends. I enjoy acrylic painting and have exhibited work in numerous festivals and galleries throughout the region. I have a penchant for painting en plein air and for drawing miniatures sized under 1 inch, but I'm best known for my animal portraits in acrylic and for encouraging other artists in my community to follow their passion. I organize and endorse an annual juried art exhibit for regional high school students that's been running for over 10 years. I'm also a writer; my first book is a sci-fi novel in verse that was published in 2019, and in 2021 I won 3rd place in a playwriting competition. These passion projects fuel my creative muses and keep me returning to my painting easel with vigor and joy. I love making art and know that my best work is always in front of me.
