Painting: Oil on Other.
I live near the North Hollywood Los Angeles Metro station, where I can hop on the Red Line subway train and ride the rail system to downtown Los Angeles and all points in-between. Fascinated by life on the subway line, I am working on a series of paintings called "Under the City" that captures what I see while riding the metro.
The first painting in that series, "L.A. Subway," is shown here, and it provides a unique look at the megalopolis that I call home. The painting depicts a pensive woman riding home from a hard day's work. She wears scrubs and carries her possessions in an orange backpack; she stands because there are no seats left available on the crowded train.
"L.A. Subway" is professionally framed in a thick black wooden frame, two inches in depth. The artwork "floats" in its frame, with a quarter inch space between the painting and its frame.
