About The Artwork

Inspired by the enduring qualities of the Yoruba Culture That is clearly demonstrated by the extraordinary survival of Yoruba religious practices and even the Yoruba language in Cuba and Brazil, where the descendants of Yoruba slaves were able to absorb the culture of many other African tribes into their own system. The Yoruba language is also among the most virile in Africa. A large body of literature is being produced and published in Yoruba - including intellectual literary magazines Visitors to Yoruba communities are often struck by what they call the corruptibility of Yorubas, their continuous readiness for compromise, which is interpreted as lack of principle or lack of guts. Often this apparent corruption is merely a demonstration of the Yoruba's incredible adapt-ability, its capacity to absorb new ideas without, in the end, giving up its identity.
