La Belle Ferronière, a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, is one of the most profound portraits of female psychology. Perhaps it is even the first example. The personality of who looks to us from the canvas seems present, modern. It looks like a contemporary photo, with eyes turned to the lens. Its immediacy has led me to make some current interpretations, more and more pushed towards an abstract deformation. I acted as if I were painting a friend's portrait. It is not, but I would have liked it so much.

Michele Gammieri was born in Campobasso, Italy in 1958, and lives in Molise. Since 1980 he has dedicated his artistic career to painting, producing a considerable number of works with a variety of techniques, such as acrylic painting, watercolor, photography and computer graphics. His style is characterized by a playful postmodern polymorphism that ranges from post-impressionism to abstract expressionism and pop art. Among his major subjects we are on inner reflection and a metaphysical view of reality. He has shown his work in various exhibition spaces in the Molise, such as the exhibition hall of the municipality of Campobasso as well as several private locations. Among his most recent shows are Wrinkles (2014), King and Queen (2012), Saviniana (2011), The Ruins of Altilia (2011), Still Alive (2010), Universes (2009) and Seas (2008). In recent years, he's working on the relationship between Alchemic Psychology and images production. August 2018 update. My work goes on by continuing the study of Jungian psychology, with insights in the direction of Alchemy, Anima and Shadow. The last year was therefore dedicated both to the most suitable techniques to bring out unconscious contents (through, for example, procedures similar to the surrealist automatism), and to the main figures of the archetypes, such as the study of the female figure as a representation of Anima, or the Shadow as an obscure part of the masculine and feminine personality. Some female figures were taken directly from representations of the past, such as the Melusina of an Italic bas-relief, others from masterpieces of art history, such as "la Belle Ferronière" by Leonardo da Vinci, or the "Birth of Venus" by Botticelli. They represent models of harmony and beauty that allow many modern interpretations. Other figures, like “Girls”, are the result of my spontaneous fantasies. Landscapes, visions, more or less obscure places, are often the result of real surrealist improvisations. Painting returns to be the ideal dimension within which to bring out images of the collective unconscious, giving meaning to the seemingly dull life of those who paint them but also to those who look and appreciate them. I apologize for my bad English, and for the few in-depth descriptions of the paintings. My works are difficult to describe in Italian, so please imagine in English. However, I also know how important it is to understand, in the case of modern art.
