ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting of a waterfal is part of a series of works exploring individual waterfalls in Sout-West France. This one is based on a spectacular waterfall in Salles la Source in the Aveyron France. The dramatic falling water provides one with the opportunity to explore a wide range of painterly possibilties, verging sometimes on abstraction but without losing the relationship with the subject. Force, beauty and movement are qualities sought in these works. Unlike traditional Shan shui Chinese waterfall paintings , these are based on what can be observed as opposed to the more philosophical interpretation in Chinese painting.
