After receiving his MFA from Otis Art Institute, Bruce began his career as an, editorial, corporate and advertising illustrator and international poster artist. As an illustrator he received medals from The Society of Illustrators and numerous awards of merit from national and international publications.
Bruce began his career as an exhibiting abstract artist in 1980.and had dozens of gallery shows internationally.
In 2018 after a trip to the cathedrals and museums of Italy, Bruce returned to making figurative art. His work includes projects funded by grants from the Department of Education and the Foundation for Global Community.
Bruce's studio at the Brewery Arts Complex in Los Angeles, CA. is a frequent stop for L.A. Art Tours. He has taught advanced painting at Mount St Mary’s College, Art Exploration in the Academic Enrichment Program at California State University Northridge and has taught at Otis College of Art and Design.
