About The Artwork

Full sized (200cm x 140cm), oil on canvas replica of a painting lost with the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912. The original, by French neoclassical artist Merry-Joseph Blondel, was first exhibited at the Louvre, Paris in November 1814. The owner of the painting in 1912 survived the sinking and made a $100,000 claim against the White Star Line ($2.4million equivalent in 2014), for the loss of the painting, making it the most highly valued single item of cargo lost in the disaster. I researched and produced this replica between spring 2013 and late autumn 2014.
