Atonality is to music what lyrical abstraction is to painting : a breakaway from the classical form, a stroll away from the realms of consciousness. Playing with colours as others play with the forces of nature to elaborate metaphores, Jean-Philippe Estebenet takes along the art of painting into an extatic and crazy dance where the content, which once was the physical medium to express form, now takes over and cries out its right to become the subject of any shapeless figure - without fixed contours, or essence. But, in this moving, floating world without links, the notion of order prevails. It springs out from the knocking ebbs and imposes itself as if, from the elements on the canvas which at first look appear separate, could sprout one absolutely consistent organisation - only one chasmose. As in the case of maelströms and cyclones, all Jean-Philippe Estebenet’s paintings have a gravity center around which the debris of coalescence rotate.Still, as in the example of the latest research in quantic physics, this artist unveils through his work a universe beyond the visible world : not so to speak the stable world of atomes, but the spirals and the swirls of subtil matters which are the basis of any phenomenom about to take shape or else ready to break.
