Lake View Painting

My practice was centered around ceramics and sculpture for the majority of my life, both in Los Angeles, California and Oahu, Hawaii. During the pandemic, however, my practice split along the line of art and craft that ceramics dances along: I began to venture into craft in wood furniture, and into the art of resin painting, which I find to feel like a cousin of ceramic glazes. While glazes and resin align along the fickle layering of color, texture, and depth on three dimensional surfaces, they divert on the scales of tangible to grand landscape, conceptual to representational, organic and gritty to hyper-clean and glassy. Resin has offered me a new challenge on technique and new tool to represent the ocean- and mountain-scapes that shape my life and values.
