About the painting: Paradoxically reality only is shown in its essence when it remains undisclosed and unexplained. Earth shatters every attempt to penetrate it. The objectification of nature in science and technology looks like a mistery but in fact it only demonstrates our impotence in the face of nature. The Earth appears openly cleared as itself only when it is perceived and preserved as it is, wich is essencially undisclosable. What these works have in common is the adding of symbolic elements in the composition.Those elements come from our expectations about the nature and they depend on the interpretation of the observer They really don't exist so the composition becomes a metaphor of the illusion that by dissecting the nature we can understand it better. Julio Alves has produced a diverse body of work that includes painting, drawing, installation and sculpture. With his studio based in Estoril, in the portuguese atlantic coast, he has developed his activity for nearly three decades and has carried out several solo and group exhibitions. With an academic background in architecture, subsequently studied painting at the Society of Fine Arts of Lisbon and in recent years has been devoted entirely to painting. It was during the last decade that he continually has developed the theme of the landscape that is still the core of his work.
