ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A panoramic scene that has been selected for 'Discerning Eye Exhibition 2015' The Mall, London SW1. Oil on panel painting 'en plein air' (outside) of a still, opaque Summer sunset over 'King William the Conquerer's New Forest'. The lines on the bottom left were marked by rubbing the painting into the surrounding thicket. The selectors for the 'Discerning Eye Exhibition 2015 Exhibition' are: Nicole Farhi CBE - the French fashion designer now turned sculptor; Emma Bridgewater - founder of the eponymous pottery; Stephen Snoddy - director of The New Art Gallery, Walsall; Steve Pill - editor of Artists & Illustrators Magazine; Stephen Doherty - Director of Visitor Communications at Somerset House, London; and Larry Lamb - the well-known TV actor. This exhibition is on from 12 - 22 November at the Mall Galleries, London, SW1.

David Scott Moore is a landscape painter who paints outside and in at the Phoenix Brighton studios the drama and atmosphere of British Landscapes. He has been selected for: the 'Discerning Eye Exhibition 2015′, Mall Galleries, London SW1; shortlisted for the 2015 & 2016 Lynn Painter-Stainers' national art prize, London, and pre-selected for 'The Royal Society of British Artists Open Exhibition 2016, London. On ’Sussex Downs Sunset Crimson I’ – “We love the dramatic and intensely colourful sky!” Big Heart Auction Team, Brighton Dome, 2015. His oil paintings are bold experiments in light and colour and contrasting tones with intricate surfaces that convey the drama and atmosphere of British landscapes. He is a Studio Landscape Painter based at the Phoenix Arts, England. David has recently exhibited at the Brighton Dome, Bellis Gallery, Chalk Gallery, Phoenix Arts Gallery and Brighton Festival Open Houses, and has work in collections as far as Sydney Australia and China. "These oils start ‘en plein air’ – painted outside. Inspired by South of England Downs landscapes. I initially respond by rapidly painting brush marks, layered textures and patterned rhythm to record the transitions of light over brief moments in time. In the studio, for weeks afterwards, the focus then becomes the painting and its surface. Many stages of destruction and recreation occur of re-sculpting the skies and re-layering the land with paint and glaze. Many of the original marks are left very visible to retain a live feel. I like the idea of the painter being the main character in the narrative setting; a first person witness who relays a live event and draws the viewer in close to a compelling scene."
