My recent project of paintings are in search of my connection to my family, specially to my mother. My mother is 85 years old, she used work at a medical university doing research and lab works. Ever since I can remember my mother is an avid tailor. She made all our clothes during the early years till we went to college. She specially like using flower patterned material. In her house, all the sofa covers, curtains, table clothes etc. are all have these different pattern of flowers, strips, or checkers . It's her way of artistic expression. Up till now, I still have many shirt, pants that are made from these beautiful patterned material from my mom. I call it the fabric of life. The rest of my works are divided by figurative narration, everyday life documenting works and abstract works. My figurative works are like my own dialogue with myself or to a friend. Where my daily documenting style paintings are a reflect of my everyday living, either my mom's house, her surroundings, a small corner of my house, my dog, or the scene from my daily walk have all inspire me to create. These small point of view are raw and tender with warmth. In my abstract works, I examine memories in a space. It was inspired by the Chinese Character "Jian" which represent time, space, human world, and even mortuary, all has this one same character in them. Our whole life happened in these variety of spaces. I use mostly rectangular shapes to portray these spaces as a room, a door, a city and what happens in these spaces and what it left us with in our memories. The materials I used are oil on Chinese rice paper and canvas to have this unique and mysterious texture combining both western and eastern aesthetics.
