Last Train (for Allen Toussaint) Painting

This work is inspired by journeys to and from my studio that took me past train shunting yards and disused Railway Workshops where the past was just a ghost of a former era of industry but memories and evidence of that era were still around. I hope viewers will be triggered into memories of their own journeys and of the times they travelled by train through their own places of interest be it foreign travel or to and from work. I use this format because I like the close up image of the carriages and the surfaces of the trains themselves to be the focus of the painting where I can explore the surface in paint because the dust and rust covered steel is so evocative.
