ABOUT THE ARTWORK
2015. Acrylic colours on Fabriano cold pressed watercolour paper, 300 gm, 30 x 41 in. , 76 x 104 cm. The larger size and firm surface of this paper has freed me up to better express abstract colour … within the outlines of the subject. But it’s as much about the colour play as it is about the subject. Here it’s the social setting of eating out at these curbside food stalls, in this case in Thailand. The subject is fascinating and interpreting it even more interesting. The close up pictures are to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there is the work in progress on my work table. You can also see the snapshot I took which served as the inspiration for this painting. Then there’s me standing next to the painting for perspective.

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
