ABOUT THE ARTWORK

As a seasoned artist with a love for dogs and a fascination for monarchs, "Le Roi Bulldog: The Reign of a Canine Monarch" was inspired by the idea of combining these two passions into one unique artwork. My hope for viewers of this painting is that they will feel a sense of wonder and delight at the whimsical idea of a French Bulldog ruling over a kingdom from a ruby throne. Additionally, I hope that the painting will inspire viewers to consider the unique and regal qualities that we often attribute to our furry companions. In choosing the medium, I opted for oil on canvas, as this traditional medium lends itself well to creating rich, layered textures and vibrant colors. For the subject matter, I was drawn to the idea of a canine monarch as a playful and imaginative twist on the traditional portrait of a human monarch. Finally, the style of the painting was influenced by my love of Baroque art, with its dramatic lighting and bold, dynamic compositions. By combining all of these elements, I aimed to create a painting that captures the majesty and charm of our beloved pets.
