About The Artwork

Recently, I started working on a series of wood panels for the first time in many years. Always a “layers” girl, I’ve been drawn to the textures I can create and the resilience of the material. Carving into it, sanding layers away to reveal what lies beneath, even the smell of the raw wood has pulled me in. It’s been revealing to me that frankly, it can take more of a beating than the canvas or the papers I’m used to working with. That I can throw whatever I have at it, and it will endure. It can hold all the duality that I need to process. Both rough and smooth. Faded and fresh. Tender and bold. The hidden and the obvious. The raw and the refined. Reactive and reflective. The bitter and the sweet of life, all at once. 12" x 12", acrylic and mixed media on wood panel. Comes in a white wooden floating frame.

Nadine Prada is lucky to be alive. She survived an 8.8 earthquake in 2010 and left her high profile job as a multi-award-winning art director to devote her life to art making. Nadine’s work captures the awe, energy and wonder of what it feels like to be fully present in a place through the five senses, and how that can lead to experiences of transcendence. **Inspired by her travels and memories of her childhood in the Caribbean, Prada works most often in watermedia and thinks of her paintings as “happenings”, events that are built up in layers and frozen in paint. **Nadine was one of 18 artists featured in the inaugural season of Landscape Artist of the Year Canada, appearing on CBC, Makeful and Cottage Life TV in Canada, and Sky TV in the UK. She has appeared in The Toronto Star, Novella Magazine’s Art Hot List, and The Creator’s Journey podcast (alongside bestselling authors like Gretchen Rubin, Jonathan Fields and former bosses Nancy Vonk & Janet Kestin). In 2012, she was named one of 50 “Artists to watch” in Toronto by piccsy.com. Her work has been internationally shown and collected since 1999.
