About The Artwork

This is a very personal piece reflecting the difficult relationship with my daughter. It's about the the desires and wishes we have for our children as they embark on their own in life, clashing and conflicting with their own experiences and desires. It's about learning to let go, and let our children claim their own challenges even though we, as parents, want to prevent this pain and suffering, it seems inevitable. It's a relection of disappointment and loss, and the realization that itself is a false construct. The letters are messages of love and hope, and the butterfly ( a 'postman' butterfly) is the courier. Adventures and dreams can still be realized, it may not be quite how we had imagined it.

I am a Canadian artist interested in the alchemy of painting and transformation. Hence the Butterfly series, which is old metaphor of change and re-birth imagined through my lens.As someone with a facial difference, I'm interested in the miracle of the caterpillar becoming a butterfly.... the ugly duckling into a swan.
