ABOUT THE ARTWORK

(Shipping delayed due to COVID19. Please send all inquiries to curator@saatchiart.com) Life Force was inspired by a pen drawing of repeating pink flowers. This piece is part of an ongoing series featuring the ‘Ant People.’ In the painting, they have a large mysterious being bound with rope and they are working together to extract energy from it using a needle that is jammed into the side of the being’s head. The image alludes to the destruction that humans inflict on the earth. The violet clouds emerging from the corner are foreshadowing that environmental changes that are upon the Ant People whether they choose to pay attention to it or not. This piece is painted with thick and repeating, short strokes that give it a seductive texture. Multiple hues of pink are arranged in a way that contour the depth of the flower face. A stark contrast between yellow and turquoise emphasizes the gaping holes that create the mouth and eyes of the mysterious being which dominates the painting. Wrapping the paint around a 1.5 inch border creates a 3D effect and allows the painting to be displayed with or without a frame.
