ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My current series is focused around Sydney Harbour, its ferries, seascapes, rocky cliffs and foreshores, lighthouses and its local plant and bird life. The subject of this painting is the lighthouse, a trans historical icon, synonymous with mystery, adventure, intrigue and nostalgia. The rocky foreshore below and the swell of the ocean around the point add interest to the location. The winter light of the afternoon is bathing the lighthouse in a warm peachy glow. I hope this painting might transport viewers to their own daydreams. It is painted on board. I like the earthiness of this surface, seemingly appropriate for the subject matter.

Kirsty is a expressionist painter of landscapes, seascapes and Sydney ferries. Her work is about the beauty of nature and the sense of freedom that comes from being present in vast remote places. It is her hope that the viewer will have a sense of the atmosphere of her paintings and feel present while forming their own interpretation of a work. Kirsty's landscapes are infused with memory and the inherent, often mysterious aspect of nature. While not attempting to champion any specific cause, she is passionate about the natural world and her art advocates that nature is worth preserving. Kirsty grew up in rural NSW and now lives near the coast in Sydney, Australia. These two sets of life experiences impact her work. Landscapes and Seascapes offer her the sense of vastness and magnitude that can be found in much of her work. She paints using acrylics and mediums. These materials allow her to work in layers, the painting gradually revealing itself over time. You will often see the use of impasto to build luscious texture in parts of her paintings applied using brushes, palette knives and made implements. Kirsty's work has been shown in solos and group shows in Sydney and rural NSW and Qld. She is represented by Sydney Road Gallery and also sells her work through regional galleries in NSW. She has exhibited twice at The Other Art Fair in Sydney and also exhibits at The Affordable Art Fair. She is a founding member of The Brush Artists - a boutique online art gallery that also exhibits through art fairs. Her work is held by by collectors in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, France and USA. Inspiration comes from many artists. Some include:, Philip Wolfhagen, Tim Allen, Neil Frazer, Arthur Streeton and Edward Hopper.
