ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I have been in the United States since age 10. And, all the time I have spent in this country, I have spent in the Western United States. Recently I have felt a heightened curiosity and "closeness" to the elements, landscapes, people and history of the West. In this small painting, a Native American woman looks directly onto a younger Native American girl who is also looking at her. This gesture amongst these two females could be interpreted as something an older sister and younger sister would engage in or perhaps older generations do as they prepare younger generations to enter societal activities. Being in each other's line of slight seems to be a natural and human thing in life. The bright colors and style are symbolic of my regular pallet, but, also of the energy, beauty in ordinary things in life as well as the discovery that human development is multidimensional and well as very much multi- influential.
