Little Black Dress Painting

I was going through a period of extreme loneliness and depression and the harsh red of this double self-study really emphasises that. The little black dress is a symbol of femininity; in this painting, to me, it felt like it could be armour with which one could dress up and feel empowered, it could be an invitation, or a cry for help or companionship. I enjoyed the irony of the typically sexy symbolism of the little black dress, and the perfection of the paintwork.. right until I purposefully spoilt it with red paint. It is an ironic and rebellious take on the little black dress. I hope viewers feel the power of the self-ownership of this painting, plus they may feel a little of the hemmed in feeling and the tinges of madness I felt at this time. I always love oils, I love the colour red for its punch, vibrancy and its symbolism of sensuality. The style is my own, a mix of realism, contemporary, a dash of abstraction and minimilism.
