This somber painting containing the reminiscent effect of the 1893 gem “The scream “ by Edvard Munch has a generally drab appearance Executed on Canvas with acrylic and charcoal with the approach of a learned expressionist ,this seemingly sullied composition depicts a portrait of a Soldier (the lonesome Corporal) in the foreground seconded by another figure obscured in the ashy background akin a gentle shoulder tap. The artist portrays the foreground figure clouded by a vivid overwhelming dolor and what appears to be a lucid howl demonstrating a collective human desire to be loved also attempting to suggest a lowly state of his Muse The background figure appears to be a soldier like the foreground figure indicating loyalty , support and a gentle aid from a familiar face. However, the background figure might not necessarily represent just a familiar face , but a familiar state of the self being the Higher self , the enlightened self , the ever present self observing without absorbing from the background This piece reflects on a period of melancholy in the life of the supposed muse (the foreground figure) characterized by heavy self criticism, a lackluster approach to love for the self , major reliance on external sources for validation and an inner will to evolve , to be enlightened and acceptance Self love can seem a Herculean task in our self comparing modern world , a world were we ever so try to describe our experience of love and wholeness in another person or thing . It is important to remember the lone nature of our experience in this realm because true strength manifest through our interaction with ourselves in a state of salutary solitude

Born in 1999 in Lagos, Nigeria, Alexander is a self taught Nigerian Painter, He lives and works in Abuja, Nigeria, He studied Architecture between 2016- 2022, he has been painting since 2022 and has his works in private collections across Nigeria. His works have been viewed privately by a community created in 2022 and shows his paintings to the audience annually in organized exhibitions. Ranging from stylized abstracted portraits to Landscapes and Cityscapes Alexander’s paintings explore his personal experiences, spiritual growth/enlightenment and the political scene of his immediate environment, it highlights the murky expressions of inner feelings like grief, healing, self- love, channeling, and commentates on the Nigerian political stage. Alexander channels his personal state of mind into paintings by conceiving ‘ideas’ sketching and painting, this practice has helped him to ‘Let go’ of the feelings of emptiness, pain and frustration. Delving through different artistic periods, the artist expresses different emotions with various media and techniques. He focuses on the use of acrylic to render paintings with an ashy/aged effect on canvas, cloths and any object he lays his hands on. A recurring theme in his works is the repeated appearance of soldiers in uniforms, he utilizes this to showcase strength in his otherwise vulnerable pieces. Cityscapes and Landscapes also reoccur in a period of his practice deeply influenced by his Architectural practice. A shift in the direction of his work came very recently with a collaboration to create a painting commissioned by a Non-governmental organization that centres on charity and provision of resources to rural communities, the commission aims to inspire change and support for the less priviledged.
