Jennifer Janisch is an Austrian visual artist working primarily in contemporary figurative painting. Since 2023, she has developed a distinctive artistic approach centered on the exploration of emotional states that are present yet not fully visible. Her work often begins with the human body, depicted in a reduced and anonymous way, deliberately avoiding clear facial features. These figures become universal forms, allowing space for interpretation and personal projection. Through the combination of monochrome bodies and abstract, expressive backgrounds, she creates a visual tension between presence and absence, closeness and emotional distance. Expanding beyond the human figure, Janisch incorporates organic forms such as translucent flowers and jellyfish. These motifs reflect the same underlying themes — visibility and invisibility, fragility, and the complexity of inner emotional worlds. Although fully visible, these forms remain difficult to fully understand, mirroring the nature of human emotion itself. Working primarily with acrylic, she uses layering, transparency, and texture to create depth and movement. Her paintings evolve depending on light and perspective, reinforcing the idea that perception is never fixed but constantly shifting. Janisch studied at the Graz Fashion School, where she developed a strong foundation in color theory, light and shadow, material techniques, and human anatomy. During this time, she also attended courses in fashion photography and nude painting. In 2024, she held her first exhibition together with her partner Moe Astatic, titled “Kontrast: zwischen zwei Welten”. In December 2024, she expanded her practice into live performance, creating a painting on stage in front of an audience, further exploring the immediacy and emotional presence of her work.
