About The Artwork

Small painting of pink lotus flowers. Ink and watercolours on square rice paper. Lotus flower has a very rich historical and cultural background, with consistent symbolic interpretations: lotus flowers are viewed as symbols of purity, strength, resilience, and rebirth. They grow through the muddy waters, rise and float above them as beautiful, unstained flowers. Every night, they close up in the murky waters and open up with the dusk. In Buddhism, lotus symbolises the highest spiritual attainment. In modern Japan, there are many lotus pond parks to admire the lotuses. One of the oldest lotuses in the world is found in a park near Tokyo called Kodaihasu no sato, meaning "the village of old lotus". Some of the flowers in the park were grown from 600-year old seeds. The painting is signed, sealed with my personal seal, wet-mounted on another sheet of backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. The painting is manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Colours may differ due to differences in devices.

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
