Original avant garde acrylic painting by Tatiana Hantig. Lucy was a 36brick piece designed after a memory of mine. When I was a child, I would travel on tour with my parents for their Illusionist show. At one point, in Japan, my dad was the one working while my mom was home schooling my brothers and I. She had decided we had enough of the indoors and wanted to go on an adventure. We blindly took a train and went walking through a small town with beautiful little houses lined with cherry blossom trees. At the end of the lane was a cliff with trees clenching the sides, pink snow drifting across the sea and a fog that hid the ends of the ocean. I often reflect back at this moment, realizing completely in my adolescence that this moment... could never be relived again. It was this singular moment in time that i knew was special and one of a kind and I would never forget it. I wished deeply that my father had been with us.

For over a decade I have been exploring paint peels as form of art. Paint Peels are painted highlights to lowlights to create the form, and land to sky in my landscapes. In this case, this piece has been pieced together like a puzzle with many pieces of paint peels creating a textured and 3D quality. Each paint peel is painted facedown on a surface that it will later be peeled from. During the process, paint seeps, cracks, wrinkles and abstracted elements come forth. This loss of control reminds me of how memories become. All our recollections eventually become dreamlike and abstract memoirs of our life.
