ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece is a modern version of the traditional botanical Chinese spring paintings. The peony is the unofficial Chinese National Flower. It stands as a symbol of spring and female beauty and reproduction. It also represents richness, honour and high social class. I sewed directly on the background and painted metallic acrylic all over it to resemble the gold backgrounds of traditional screen paintings.
