In crafting this painting, I merged impressionist and realist elements to evoke the timeless grace and vitality of an urban scene. Utilizing oil paints, I sought to capture the nuanced interplay of light and structure, giving life to the textured surface of each building and the tranquil water. This piece reflects both a deep reverence for architectural beauty and a spirited celebration of the everyday. It was sourced from places I have visited and places my ancestors worked, lived and visited in the C18th and C19th. I have become fascinated with how places of origin, their socio-historical significance shape an individual's identity. This series entitled "Significance of Origin: Romancing the Landscape" highlights a romantic and nostalgic approach to my landscape painting and focuses on the significance of location to my family history or to social history, emphasising the “Memories” of places. It often incorporates places I have been, or where ancestors have lived in the distant past. Many of the images are places with which I have resonated only to discover later ancestors came from or worked in these locations.

My initial art training occurred in TAFE and Colleges of Advanced Education in Sydney, Australia the 1970s, where I was strongly influenced by Abstract Expressionism, sculptural formalism and performance-installation art. I practiced as a sculptor and performance artist until the late 80s. This was punctuated by two performances at the Cite Internationale Des Artes, Paris in 1984 courtesy of a AGNSW Moya Dyring Studio residency and an Australia Council travel grant. In the 1990s I began to paint and studied a Master of Arts at The University of Western Sydney from 99-2001.Over 20 years my studio research evolved to embrace the concept of "totalized time" and the stratification of memory in my work lends itself to the historical references I use in my paintings, creating a mixture of philosophical and ideological threads through time.
