Art & Creativity has always been part of my life. A fact that shows in what I create, how I think & live. I like to push the boundaries of any material I use. I have set myself the challenge to use paint (a 2D material) in a 3D way. I describe some of my creations as 'soft sculpture'. All of my work is made with paint, nevertheless I do not use a paintbrush, which is the traditional tool associated with painting. I create every thread that I use for my work myself, which is a time consuming process but guarantees individualized results. No two pieces are quite the same and I wont be able to reproduce identical pieces - ever. I take painting off the wall. My wearable art garment - 'Paint on Canvas' is one example. It is made with paint and canvas, the materials traditionally used for painting, I literally created a 'painting taken off the wall'. At the same time, it has become a sculptural piece (3D). In addition, it is perfectly functional - wearable - art. It is an art event in itself, a painting and a sculpture, wearable to any art exhibition or other function. I challenge the convention of paint by extending the range of how it can be used, often taking it beyond a frame. In the field of sculpture, paint is not a traditionally used medium. I am showing that it can be. My work stands the test of time, just as any traditional painting, and can be cared for in the same way; e.g. permanent positioning would be out of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. All of them can be easily dusted or wiped with a damp cloth if there is a need to do so. I am inviting the viewer to question - what is he looking at when contemplating my work: Is it a sculpture? Is it a painting? Is it both or is it neither?
